MARY JANE JARRETT MORGAN CANDLER – Mary Jane Jarrett Morgan died Thursday night in Tucker, Georgia, following a long decline in health. She was 94. She was born on March 28, 1916, in Erwin, Tennessee. She moved to Candler, NC, at an early age and lived there until her move to Georgia 10 years ago to be near her son. She was the daughter of Charlie and Launa Thomas Jarrett and the widow of the late Arthur Davis Morgan. Mary Jane was a long-time employee of the Enka Corporation in addition to helping her husband run Morgan's Grocery on Pisgah Highway. She loved to work, to garden, and to cook. Her cakes were well known among her friends. She is survived by one son, Dan (Katha) of Lilburn GA; three grandchildren- Daniel (Amy) Morgan of Grayson GA, Robert (Grace) Morgan of Covington GA, and Susan Morgan of Conyers GA; and six great-grandchildren – Hannah, Jarrett, Gracie, Max, Sam and Hope Morgan; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue Sunday, September 26, at 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Amy Morgan officiating. Burial is at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Rock Baptist Church, 20 White Rock Church Rd., Candler, NC 28715, Piney Mountain UMC, 48 Piney Mountain Church Rd., Candler, NC 28715, or to your favorite charity.

  1. I remember Mary Jane as a very nice person, both at Morgan’s Store and when we both worked at American Enka. Dan may not remember me as I was a couple of years behind him in school.

    Sorry to hear about Mary Jane’s passing, she was a wonderful woman. I feel truly honored to have known and loved her as family, to have had her as a wonderful neighbor all of my life, and knowing her as a very close friend to my late Granny, Vera Gregg. I will cherish every moment that I got to spend getting to know her, hearing her stories, and learing valuable life lessons from her.   7. So very sorry to hear of Mary Janes passing. Although I had not seen her in years I can remember stoping at the store and visiting as a child with my mother Mary Arthurs sister. May she rest in peace as she was a wonderful person.
