Winston Ard, of Asheville, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at his home.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Thomas Benjamin “Ben” Ard and Belle Rogers Ard and was also preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Smeltzer and a brother, Ellsworth Ard. Mr. Ard was a US Marine Corps veteran of WWII and retired in 1986 from the Biltmore Estate where he worked as a painter. He served as a volunteer at Memorial Mission Hospital and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the Painter’s Union.
Mr. Ard is survived by his wife, Eloise Clayton Ard.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Harold Savell and Daniel Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Deacons of Bethel Baptist Church serving as pallbearers and Orva Lee Roberts, Ralph Armstrong, Larry Cabe and Gary Rice serving as honorary pallbearers.
His family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
