William Edward Franklin, 86, of Asheville, died on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Madison Co., he was a son of the late Garfield and Belle Cutshall Franklin. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, and four brothers. Mr. Franklin is survived by his wife, Irene Shelton Franklin; daughter, Anna Bernice Franklin and her children, Christina Schies, Scott Jenkins, Michael Conley, and Melinda Jacobs and husband Greg; son, Albert Delmot Franklin and wife Lisa and their children, Tinny Howe Franklin, Bobby Melton Franklin, Edward Franklin, and Daniel Hollifield; sister Eva Shrewsberry and husband Reynard; brother, Feltner Franklin; and 12 great-grandchildren. A funeral service for Mr. Franklin will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Don N. Welborn officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

William Edward Franklin better know as my Papaw Ed.I shared so much of my childhood with papaw,in the garden,to picking blueberries,to climbing on his honda motorcycle and getting in trouble.As I have grown into a woman I have missed so much time with you.Papaw you will be dearly missed but I take comfort in knowing you are now one of my angel’s.I love you.
