Virginia Queen Biggs, 65, of 19 Knoll Ridge Drive, Asheville, died Thursday, January 15, 2009, at St. Joseph Campus, Mission Hospital. Mrs. Biggs was born in Swain County and had lived in Buncombe County since her childhood. She was a daughter of the late Monroe and Gertrude Wiggins Queen. She worked at Mills Manufacturing for 27 years and was a member of Morningside Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Richard M. Biggs, PLS, two children, Beth Biggs Gilliam, PLS, and her husband, Jerry Gilliam, of Candler, and Dr. R. Lee Biggs, CDR, US Navy, and his wife, Marie Holland Biggs, stationed on Guam; four grandchildren, Kyle and Wesley Gilliam of Candler and Sean and Laura Biggs, living in Guam; three brothers, Lee Queen of Charlotte, Al Queen of Concord, and Robert Pace of New Bern; and one sister, Julie Hiatt of Charleston, SC. The funeral will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene King officiating. Interment will be at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
