Virginia Dare Shook

Virginia Dare Haney Shook, 75, of 165 Brevard Road, Asheville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 31, 2004. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late James Monroe and Addie Love Shackleford Haney. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Shepherd and two brothers James M. “Bud” Haney, Jr. and Joseph O. Haney. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Jack R. Shook; a son, Ronnie J. Shook of Asheville; four sisters, Hazel Shook, Mazel Shook, Betty McKinney and Margaret McKinney, all of Asheville; two grandchildren, Ronnie J. Shook, Jr. of Sanford and Laura S. Broome of Asheville and one great-grandchild, Kinsley Broome of Asheville. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Ralph Sexton and Jerry Young officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens. Her family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
