Tyler Joseph “Smitty” Smith, 29, passed away unexpectedly on July 20, 2026.

A native of Buncombe Co., Tyler was the son of Tammie King Caldwell and the late Charles Caldwell, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Martha and William “Chubb” King.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Taylor Smith; father, Mark Joseph Smith; and many other family members and friends.

Tyler will be remembered for his love of baseball and music.

Tyler’s family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on Friday, July 31, at 1:00 p.m. at the Sand Hill Buncombe Co. Sports Park, 58 Apac Circle, Asheville, NC 28806.

  1. I fondly remember Tyler as a young man who loved baseball. Tyler and his family have always held a special place in my heart, and I am truly heartbroken over the loss of such a young life. My prayer is that the many wonderful memories of Tyler will continue to bring peace and comfort to all who knew and loved him, especially Tammie and Taylor. May God surround each of you with His love, strength, and grace in the days ahead.
