Sue Nichols Greene

Sue Nichols Greene, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated nurse, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2026, at The Laurels of Greentree Ridge Nursing Home on Sweeten Creek Road in Asheville. She was the widow of Ernest Greene.

Sue was born and raised in Andrews, NC. She graduated from Memorial Mission Hospital School of Nursing and proudly served as a registered nurse, earning her place as a “Mission Belle.” She worked in medicine until starting her family, after which she became a devoted stay-at-home mother. She was a strong proponent of education and worked hard to support her children’s growth and learning. In her later years, she cherished her time with her grandchildren, Naomi and Bruce, showering them with love.

Sue was deeply active in her faith community, particularly at Westwood Baptist Church, where she found joy and purpose.

The family extends their heartfelt and exceeding gratitude to the compassionate staff at The Laurels of Greentree Ridge for the loving care and kindness they showed Sue during her last five years there, making that time comfortable and peaceful. They also wish to thank the Rogers family for the love and care extended to them. They have been an exceptional extended family.

She is survived by her son, Stuart Greene, and his wife Jessica Greene; grandchildren, Naomi Greene and Bruce Greene; daughter, Jill Greene; brother, Charles Nichols; and nephews, Nicky Nichols and Roger Hollifield.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Greene; her brother-in-law, Albert Greene, and his wife, Frances Greene; her sister, Judy Nichols; and her sister-in-law, Maureen Hollifield, and her husband, J.D. Hollifield.

A service to celebrate Sue’s life will be held at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Friends may visit beginning at 10:00 a.m., with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. The Revs. Carson Moseley and Brian Allen will officiate.
