Shirley Rice Whealan

Shirley Rice Whealan, 63, of 16 Mildred Ave., Asheville, died Sunday, August 6, 2006 at her home. A Buncombe Co. native, Mrs. Whealan was daughter of the late Carl Vernon and Addie Wilson Rice. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Whealan. Mrs. Whealan is survived by three sisters, Mary Jackson, of Rome, GA, Betty Farr, of Hampton, VA, and Carrie DeShan, of San Antonio, TX; six brothers, Earl Rice, with whom she made her home, Johnny Rice, of Burnsville, NC, Charles Rice, of Charlotte, Carrol Rice, Jr., of Madison, WI, Melvin Rice, of Seattle, WA, and Michael Galloway; a special sister-in-law, Martha Rice, who cared for her during her lengthy illness; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Avenue. The family will receive friends following the service.
