Asheville – LCDR Shirley Bailey Maiwurm Hickey, USNR (Ret), of the Givens Estates, died on Monday, November 12, 2007.
She was born June 5, 1920 in Asheville and was the daughter of the late H. Grant Bailey and Rebecca Duncan Bailey. She graduated from Asheville High School (1937) and Greensboro College. She attained two Masters Degrees and many other professional designations.
Her first husband, Frederick W. Maiwurm died in 1976. She is survived by her husband, Gerald F. Hickey of Givens Estates and five step-children.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.

Shirley and Fredrick were like parents to me. They gave me the hope and confidence to succeed and to face all challenges with a can do spirit. Praise God that they were part of my life, while I was growing up and praise God again that He provided a wonderful second husband like Gerry.
