Shelba “Jeane” Woody Blankenship, 58, of 51 Harnett Street, Asheville, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at Hospice Solace Center. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Willis and Hilda Byrd Woody. She was an insurance adjuster and secretary with T.M. Mayfield & Company and was a member of the Asheville Claims Association where she held all offices including President of the association. She also served as Treasurer of the NC Adjusters Association and was a member of Windom United Methodist Church in Burnsville. Mrs. Blankenship is survived by her husband, W. Harold Blankenship; a daughter, Vicki Briggs of Burnsville; two step-sons, Daniel Blankenship and Van Blankenship, both of Asheville and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home.

    May the Lord be with you all during this time of bereavement. I want to say that I have only met Mrs. Blankenship once; however, she left a lasting impression on me. It was as if I knew her many years. She had a great spirit about her. She will be missed but know that she is at rest and peace with the Lord.
