It is with deep sorrow that we announce the loss of Samantha “Sam” Lynn Goff, who passed away on July 9, 2026, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 38.
Born on August 7, 1987, in Asheville, Sam was the beloved daughter of the late Myra “Margie” Eblen, cherished wife of Steven Goff, and adored stepmother of Emma Goff. She was a ray of sunshine, bringing joy and warmth to all who knew and loved her.
Sam was known for her compassion, her generosity, and her love for her family, friends and all animals. She showed unyielding devotion to her family and pets, and she touched countless lives with her kindness through her years of teaching preschool and working alongside Steven in the restaurants they built together.
She is survived by her husband, Steven Goff; stepdaughter, Emma Goff; sister, Amanda Jones Barnard (Chad); nephews, Evan and Max Barnard; niece, Juliet Barnard, as well as many extended family members and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory. She was preceded in death by her mother, Myra Eblen, her grandmother, Roberta Eblen, and her grandfather, Joe Eblen.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home, West Asheville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue or acts of kindness may be offered in her honor.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we are grateful for the love, laughter, and beautiful memories Sam gave to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.

Steven, this is an old friend from your college days, expressing my sympathy
for your loss. Words cannot express what I am sure is your sorrow at this time. Please know that I am thinking of you at this very difficult moment. Be at Peace.
So sorry to hear of Sam’s untimely death and my prayers are extended to all of the family who mourn her loss. I am a 70 yo cousin, living in Hawaii, and never got to meet Sam in person but had some correspondence on Ancestry.com as we had both done the genetic testing and learned that we were “close family”. We had some good on line correspondence and her sweetness and caring shown forth. Rest in Peace Samantha!
Both of my children had the privilege of having Ms. Sam as their teacher at North Asheville Preschool. My youngest, Hunter, absolutely adored her, and they shared a special bond. Ms. Sam always knew what to do with our little lion heart. Heartbroken over this news. Sending love to all.
