Ruth Woods Barnwell

Arden – Ruth Woods Barnwell, 83, of 60 Hillside Lane, died unexpectedly Friday, April 15, 2011. Ruth was born July 14, 1927 in Buncombe County. She was the wife of Lawrence N. Barnwell who predeceased her. She was the daughter of the late William A. Woods and Dona Lance Woods. She was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was the beloved mother of seven surviving children; daughters, Priscilla and James Young of Arden, Linda and Thomas Jankowski of Greeneville, TN and Mary and Jack Brewer of Arden; sons, Stephen and Maureen of Arden, Randy and Marsha of Mali, Africa, Larry and Tammy of Fletcher and Freddie and Kathy of Asheville. She is also survived by her fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. The funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Reverends Cecil Robinson and Howell Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm Monday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, 72 Long Shoals Road, where Mrs. Barnwell will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the services. At other times the family will be at "Mama's" house.
