Reba Brookshire Lowman

Reba Brookshire Lowman, 86, of Givens Estates, Asheville, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, in Wilmington, NC. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Jane Waldrup Roberts. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Harold V. Brookshire who passed away in 1989 and two brothers, Kenneth Roberts and Bill Roberts. Mrs. Lowman was a 1937 graduate of Asheville Normal Teachers College and taught in the Buncombe County and Madison County school systems for a number of years. She spearheaded the fundraising for Asheville Normal Teachers College residence hall and scholarship funds at Warren Wilson College. In 1954 she founded Brookshire Interiors, a West Asheville store for home and commercial interior design, which she operated for 17 years. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Grace Circle Sunday School class. Survivors include her husband, Everette H. Lowman of Givens Estates; a son, George Brookshire and his wife Elaine of South Port, NC; valued friends, Bill and Phyllis Mitchell of Weaverville; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Brookshire of Givens Estates; seven grandchildren and a niece. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday at Green Hills Cemetery with the Revs. Cecil Hayes and Ralph Reed officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Sunday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
