Asheville Butterfly TrailMr. Harrell was born in Asheville and was a son of the late Edwin Maurice and Freda Lee Isaac Harrell. He was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School, attended Mars Hill College and received his J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee Law School. He was a member of the Phi Alpha Law Fraternity, the University of Tennessee Alumni Assn. He served in air transport in the US Navy during WW II. He was a retired trial attorney in Asheville and was a member of the WNC Officials Association umpiring high school football games for more than 25 years. He was a member of the Asheville Cosmic Club, the Elks Club, and the Esquire Club of Asheville and the NC Bar Association.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Dillingham Harrell; one daughter, Lisa Bodeker of Longwood, FL; one son, Robert Leslie Harrell of Port Charlotte, FL; two grandchildren, Jodie Lynn Bodeker and Nicholas Scott Bodeker; one sister, Nancy Davidson of Brevard and one brother, Joseph T. Harrell of Charlotte.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Treick officiating. Entombment will be at Lewis Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Fred Davidson, Joseph Harrell, Richard Bodeker, Terry Dillingham, Roger Bean, and Bud Tomlinson.
His family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Edie, Joe and Nancy, please know we are thinking of you at thie time. Our memory of Eddie goes back to Vance School in the early 1930’s. The only comfort right now is Faith in the Sovereignty of God and the concern manifested by caring friends.
I consider myself fortunate to have know Eddie as an associate in the law practice, presiding judge for litigants he represented, and friend of over forty years. I missed him at court when he retired, and will miss him more now. But I have many memories of our times together. My sympathies go out to Edith and all.
One reason I love Big Ed so much is he gave me Lisa, the best friend I’ve ever had. I’ve loved the whole family from the day I met them. They were always so accomodating, loving and happy.
Ed,especially, had that beautiful smile! I remember back in high school when Lisa and I were just becoming friends and I would call the house. Ed had some trouble understanding my Yankee accent and when I would say ‘this is Julie calling’,he would think I was saying this is ‘Joy’ calling. Lisa and I got a big kick out of it and Ed took it all in stride.
I pray God brings peace and comfort to the entire family. I know Eddie will be missed by all who knew him.
I grew up with Eddie and Joe on Vermont Av.where my parents resided for 48 years.I haven’t seen either since 1942.My prayers are with the families. Bill

We are going to miss Eddie. Working in the front yard was always interesting when Eddie came out and talked to us. His slant on neighborhood and city politics was great.

EDDIE HARRELL SINCE THAT TIME AND HAVE TALKED WITH HIM MANY TIMES ABOUT THE
BIG CITY OF BARNARDSVILLE, AS THAT IS WHERE I WAS BORN AND RAISED. HE SURE WAS A CHARACTER AND WILL BE MISSED BY MANY .
Edith: Eddie was a dear friend of mine. I got to know him when he played golf at Springdale Country Club and continued that friendship over the years with my involvement with Patton Morgan & Clark Ins. He was a character and I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
