R. Cline Roberts, 80, of 170 Clinton Ave., Asheville, died Saturday, May 26, 2001 at his residence.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Thomas N. and Ethel Carter Roberts. He was also preceded in death by a son Phillip C.
Roberts who died in 1990. He was a US Army Veteran of WW II and a former employee of the Asheville Fire Department retiring in 1979 and also worked for Buncombe County EMS for 14 years. Mr. Roberts was a member of the VFW Post 891, the Royal Arcanum and West Asheville Presbyterian Church where he was a former deacon.
His survivors include his wife, June Dillingham Roberts; sons, Rick Roberts of Asheville, Tommy Roberts of Black Mountain; sisters, Leta Whitaker of Asheville, Virginia Morgan of Weaverville, Anna Dillingham of Asheville; and four grandchildren, Lindsey, Andrew, Phillip and Cortney Roberts.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Rev. John Odom will officiate with burial
following in Green Hills Cemetery.
His family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

I have known and loved Cline Roberts ever since I was a little girl. I am comforted by the fact that I know that he loved me, too. He had a presence larger than life. He was always smiling and ready to give or receive a hug. I am thankful that my children were blessed by him as well. Thank you Mrs. Roberts, Rick and Tommy for sharing him with all of us. He was a very special man and I will miss him fiercely.
My greatest love goes out to all of the Roberts family. Sugar was like another grandfather to me and I will miss and love him always. Love to all, Jennifer
