Omie Sallie Gillespie, 90, of Bear Creek Rd., Leicester, died on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. A native of Buncombe Co., Mrs. Gillespie was a daughter of the late Cariel and Icie Fore Sluder. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Gillespie, who died in 1994. Mrs. Gillespie was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Garrison and husband Gerald, of Leicester; son, Rev. Clinton Gillespie and wife Nina, of Leicester; sister, Leitha Rogers, of Leicester; brother, Richard Sluder and wife June, of Asheville; four grandchildren, and five great- grandchildren. A funeral service for Mrs. Gillespie will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with Revs. Paul Sluder, Billy Clark, and David Scruggs officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Free Will Baptist Church. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Omie was such a sweet lady. She is in a much better place where she no longer has dementia. Cherish your memories of her. Our thoughts and prayers goes out to all of you. Again our deepest sympathy.
