Asheville- Oliver (Ollie) Allen Erwin, 92, of Arden, died Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Givens Estates Health Center.
Born October 8, 1933 in Balfour, NC, Ollie was the son of the late Ernest Allee Erwin and Bertie Matthews Erwin. Ollie was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Linda Waddell Erwin, and his two sisters, Virginia E Huntley of Bat Cave NC and Veda E. Goldsmith of Pisgah Forest, NC.
After graduation from Mills River High School in 1952, Ollie enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and attended Western Carolina College from 1957 to 1962 where he graduated with a degree in business. Beginning in 1962, Ollie worked for Ball Glass in Asheville and also at their headquarters in Muncie, Indiana. He moved back to Asheville in 1968 and began working as an accountant for American Enka (acquired by BASF in 1988) until his retirement in 1993. Ollie was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church.
Ollie loved Linda, golf, banana pudding and Duke basketball – not necessarily in that order. He is survived by his sister-in-law Betty Sams and his nieces and nephews who will miss him and his peppermint candy: Ben Goldsmith, Lynn Goldsmith, Sheila Wasch, Michael Sams, Douglas Sams, Tracy Anderson, Ben Waddell, Robin Wilker, Misty Waddell, Brandy Gammon and Beth Burton.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Skyland UMC, P.O. Box 697, Skyland NC 28776 or Four Seasons Hospice 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

Ollie and my Dad (Hugh Cole) worked together at American Enka for years. Whenever I’d go into the office to visit my Dad, Ollie always had a kind word and a handshake. I know he’s happy to be reunited with Linda…and I know that I’ll see them both again one sweet day! My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time. ✝️🙏🏻😇
