Nancy Elizabeth Stuart Burris

Nancy Elizabeth Stuart Burris, born on New Year’s Eve, 1946, passed away peacefully on April 23, surrounded by the love of her family. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Nancy was the daughter of the late James and Lorraine Ledbetter Stuart.

Nancy is survived by her daughters, Patricia Souther (Darrell), Donna Redmon and Trina Rumbough; her sister, Linda Pruitt; and her brothers, Jerry Stuart (Libby) and Jimmy Stuart (Charlene).

She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, including David Hamlin (Krissy), who she thought of as a son, Joshua Redmon, Brittany Redmon (Nancy’s twin, who reminds many of her), Cortney Karnezis, Tonya Lee, Mike Lee, Christopher Rumbough and Trevor Rumbough, all of whom she loved dearly.

She was also blessed with many great-grandchildren. Bentley held a special place in her heart, and she especially loved watching him play baseball. The rest of her great-grandchildren also brought her so much joy, including Hannah, Isaiah, Gracie, Madalyn, Cassidy and Corbin.

Nancy also cherished her faithful companion, her dog Precious.

She created countless cherished memories over the years, including simple but meaningful moments like taking Donna and David on picnics along the Blue Ridge Parkway when they were young.

Her daughters, Donna and Patricia, spent time with her daily, a reflection of the close bond and love they shared.

Nancy will be remembered for her strength, her devotion to family, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m. in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Nations of Clyde Church of God officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
