  2. So sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. He was a wonderful, sweet man. He was not only a great customer, but he always had time for a visit and to catch up. He helped my son and his friend in a history project for the National History Day competition in 2007. His personal POW story has been documented on video and won 1st Place for WNC. Thank you, Mike, for your kindness, love, and military service. You will be missed.

  3. Mietek/Mitch, as reflected in his twinkle-eyed photo herein, was a genuine all-around humorous, gregarious, generous, gentle-man
    (of-steel); proudly — and a pride of — Polish-Americana.

Mike’s spirit shared so much, so often, with the PolAmClub-WNC (whose last such loss, in my view, was the Jan’03 passing of their Frances Mahnken).

  4. Mike was our next door neighbor for many years. We had many chats over the fence and in our yards and homes. He was a great friend to me and mylate husband, Rodney Roberts. He always had a good garden and anything that grew over the fence was mine.He also shared many of his vegestables with us. When he went home to Poland, he would bring home ‘the finest chocolates in the world’ to share with his friends. He was a fine gentleman and will be greatly missed by many. He was Mr. Mike to my grandchildren and other children in the neighborhood. A last goodby, Mike. You were well loved.Phyllis Roberts Elliott

  5. Mike was my sweet neighbor for the past 20 years. He was there to help me with my car or any other type of problem, capture my prom picture, and to dance with me at my wedding. He was greatly adored and admired by myself and our family. When I moved to Washington 3 years ago it was always my pleasure to stop in and visit with Mike while I was in Asheville. We will miss you greatly Mike!

  6. Dear Michael, Despite the many terrible things you must have witnessed during the war, you were always considerate and ‘in the moment’ with whomever you were with. It makes me happy to think that I got to sit with you outside in the VA hospital garden, probably for the last time for you to enjoy watching the birds and the squirrels scampering around. I’m so glad I had the chance to get to know you, even if for a short while, and will be inspired by your humble and joyful spirit for the rest of my days.
