Michael "Christopher" McLeod

June 17, 1991 ~ October 18, 2026

Born in: Peoria, Illinois
Resided in: Arden, North Carolina

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Chris, who left far too soon at the age of 35. Born in Illinois, he left as an infant and lived in Northern Virginia until moving to North Carolina in 2001 with his family.

Chris was outgoing, intelligent and confident. He loved sports, enjoyed people, and was never one to shy away from a little bragging.

Chris graduated from Christ School high school in 2009, attended UNC Greensboro and worked at his family’s vacation rental resort in Asheville. Like many young people Chris had his struggles, but he was able to rise above them when his son was born. Being a father to his beloved son, Colt was Chris’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.

He loved Colt with all his heart. They were nearly inseparable, sharing their days, their adventures, and a special bond that was evident to everyone around them.

Sports was a big part of Chris’s life, and sharing that passion with Colt brought him tremendous happiness. He was a volunteer coach on Colt’s football team and loved being involved in his son’s activities. Chris was not simply a father who watched his son grow, he was a father who showed up, participated, encouraged and made memories with his son. The love he had for Colt was unconditional and immeasurable. Thirty-five years was not nearly enough time to fulfill the dreams and memories waiting to be made.

Chris leaves behind his 8-year-old son, Colt McLeod, his mother, Sandy McLeod, his stepdad, Charlie Ostrander, and aunts and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 1, 2026 at Groce Funeral Home, 72 Long Shoals Road, Arden, NC.

Gifts in his memory can be made to the school his son attends, Asheville Christian Academy, 74 Riverwood Road, Swannanoa, NC 28778
