She was born in Asheville, NC on September 6, 1955 and lived the majority of her life there. She had been in Johnson City, TN since October of last year to be nearer to her sister. Tracy was the daughter of the late Ben L. Stanfiel and the late Dorothy Cabaniss Stanfiel.

Tracy retired with 30 years of service in the Buncombe County School System in 2007. She taught all 30 years at Oakley Elementary School in Asheville, teaching grades 1-4.
Tracy was of the Presbyterian faith, and her God was very special to her. She kept the nursery at church for many years.
Tracy was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy “Dot” Stanfiel and Ben L. Stanfiel, as well as her precious pup, Bella, of Asheville.

She is also survived by a special friend, Brandon. Those children were her pride and joy, and brought her much happiness! She also leaves behind countless friends that a meant the world to her, especially her best friends, Dawn Tweit and Karen Worthington. Her love for all animals, especially dogs, was evident during her life.
Tracy was a very giving person, even after her passing. She was able to donate both of her corneas, as well as other donations. Her legacy will live on through these recipients.

My mother, Jackie, worked with Tracy at Oakley for a number of years and loved her as much as she loved working with her. They remained friends for many years after. Family and friends- we pray peace and comfort are with you.
The ‘Waverly Crew’ will always keep Tracy close. I am grateful to know she is no longer in any sort of anguish and pain.
Many blessings, many memories, and much love.
Ms. Stanfiel was my 4th grade teacher at Oakley Elementary in 1990. She was my teacher when I found out my mom was having twins. I remember her being so excited for me, even though I was still trying to wrap my head around not being an only child anymore. She made me feel seen in a really tender season of my life. I am so sorry for your loss. She truly made an impact on me, and I will always remember her.
Sharon and family,
I have so many wonderful childhood memories of things Tracy and I did together. I especially looked forward to meeting her after supper, halfway between our houses, to ride bikes. We had slumber parties, sledded on snow days down her STEEP road while one of our parents watched for cars. We started Brownie Scouts together, attended Bible School, attended church and children’s choir together. We had a lot of the same friends in junior high and high school. We both became teachers, though we did not attend the same college and we talked about our teaching experiences. Tracy was a long time friend for sure and always connected with my family and checked on my mother over the years. As a genuine warm and caring soul, she embraced life and always thought of others even when she had her own health issues.
I know Tracy will be missed by all of her family and friends but I’m praising God and thanking HIM for taking her away from her suffering to live Eternal Life . Heaven has gained an angel. 🩷🙏

Dear Sharon. I know your heart hurts at the passing of your sister. There is not another connection, with any one else, that is like the one with a sibling. Much love and prayers for you to find comfort and peace in our Lord. Tracy is free of all her pain and is at home!
