Mary Kathryn "Kay" Pruette

Mary Kathryn “Kay” Pruette, 88, went to heaven on Thursday, August 20, 2026, leaving peacefully from Arden Ridge Health and Rehabilitation, where she had been a resident since June 22, 2020.

Miss Pruette was born in Asheville on January 20, 1938, and lived there all her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis Kenneth and Lottie Mae Davis Pruette; her only sibling, Sandra Pruette Reece; and her only nephew, Jeffrey David Murray.

She was a 1965 graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School (now Asheville High School). Soon after graduation, she was employed by First Union National Bank (now Wells Fargo), where she enjoyed working for 43 years and made many lasting friendships. Prior to difficult health issues, Miss Pruette faithfully attended Zephyr Hills Free Will Baptist Church, in West Asheville. She was fondly known there as “Miss Kay.”

The graveside service for Miss Pruette will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Green Hills Cemetery, 25 New Leicester Highway, Asheville, NC 28806. Friends and acquaintances are welcome to attend. Gifts in memory of Miss Pruette may be given to her church and may be mailed to Zephyr Hills Free Will Baptist Church, P.O. Box 6808, Asheville, NC 28816.

Sincere thanks go to the staff of Arden Ridge for the care shown to Miss Pruette for the last 6+ years, and to Four Seasons Hospice for the various times you were called in to assist, especially these last few weeks.
