Mary Woodby Kampf, 91, of Arden, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Four Seasons Elizabeth House of Hendersonville, surrounded by her family.

Mary was born on 23 October 1934 in Burnsville. She was preceded in death by her Husband of 60 years, Major (USAF retired) Albert Kampf. Mary and Albert ran Kampf Tax Service in Burnsville and then Waynesville for over 30 years. She was active in her Church – St. John’s in Waynesville and St. Barnabas in Arden, where she helped minister to elderly parishioners and retired clergy. She was always willing to befriend anyone or take them under wing who needed encouragement or help.

Mary is survived by her daughters Loretta (Lane) Buckner of Charlotte, Rosemary (Mike) Allen of Marshall, and Valerie (Phil) Williams of Arden, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, special friend Marilyn Eastman of Marshall, and her special companion Tony, her support dog for the last 15 years.

A Visitation will be at Groce Funeral Home at Long Shoals Road, Arden, on Sunday, May 17, 2026 from 5pm to 7pm, with a special Rosary to be said at 6:30 pm.

The Funeral Mass will be at 11am on Monday, May 18th, at St. Barnabas Church in Arden, and interment will follow at 2pm Monday at the WNC State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.

  1. Valerie and Family, I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. There are so many memories of your mom but the thing I remember the most is her smile. She always had a smile and a laugh and always made me feel welcome in her home. Love and prayers for you and all of your family. I know you will miss her dearly.

  3. Valerie and family , so sorry to hear of your mom . She was such a sweet lady . She never failed when seeing Skye to give her something . Yesterday Skye would have been 33 ,she has been gone 6 years in November . Grief is do hard , life is never the same . Sending prayers and love to an old friend , you were a special person just like your mom.

    Your mom (grandma, ME) was the loveliest person and she meant so much to me. She was always smiling and sweet, and did a wonderful job raising all of you.
