Marjorie Connelly Greene, 90, of Maggie’s Place, Candler, died Thursday, August 28, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
A native of McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Elizabeth Sides Connelly. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hugh C. Greene, in 1983; a sister, Maurice Harrison and three brothers, Dixon, Sid and Lester Connelly. She was retired from the accounting department of Buncombe County and was a member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Greene was a past president of the PTA at Candler Elementary School and a member of the Buncombe County Home Demonstration Club. Following her retirement she spent winters in the warm climate and sandy beaches of Florida. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Richard C. Greene and his wife Connie and Hugh Thomas Greene and his wife Gina, all of Candler; a brother, Charles B. Connelly of Florence SC; three grandchildren, Shawn Greene and his wife Katrin of New York City, Shannon Greene of Fairview and Ryan Greene and his wife Emily of Candler and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Sunday at Snow Hill United Methodist with the Reverend Mike Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to the Perpetual Care Fund of Snow Hill UMC Cemetery, 84 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715.

We were so sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing, but we rejoice with you in her victory over this world and death. May the Lord continue to shower you with His Peace that passes all understanding and His Grace to face this life without your Mother. It was very special that she was able to attend Ryan’s wedding and the family will always have those wonderful memories and pictures.
