Marjorie C. Clay

Marjorie C. Clay, 93, of Asheville, passed away June 2, 2026.

Born November 22, 1932 in Buncombe Co., Marjorie was a daughter of the late William and Nell Edmonds Crawford. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Harry P. Clay, her second husband, John Harrison who died on August 30, 2021, a son, Lawrence Michael Clay, grandson, Justin Butt, sisters, Doris Schnewark and Mary Edwards, and a brother, William Crawford.

Mrs. Clay was a domestic engineer, enjoying sewing, cooking, gardening, entertaining and decorating. She loved music, dancing and singing, and many social activities. She worked for Gordon Furniture and the Earthmoving Corporation. She attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and First Baptist Church.

Surviving is her daughters, Deborah Clay Rice and Phyllis Clay Butt; grandchildren, Jordan Butt, Jared Butt, and Ryan Whittington; great-grandchildren, Emerie Sky, Mason Haze, Addison Sage and Clayton Andrew; and 26 nieces and nephews.

A gathering for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 4 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. The Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen will officiate a brief service at 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriners Hospital and the ASPCA would be greatly appreciated.
