Mr. Hawkins was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late W.O. and Annie Hawkins. He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and was retired from Burlington Industries.
He is survived by two sons, Mack Hawkins, Jr. of Atlanta, GA and Richard Hawkins of Leicester; his special friend, Mary Lee Marler; two sisters, Marie Arrington and Barbara Sluder of Leicester, and one brother, Paul Hawkins of Leicester.
Graveside services will be at 4:00 pm Tuesday at Turkey Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Babb officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eliada Home for Children, PO Box 16708, Asheville, NC 28816.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.

Mack was a good friend to me for many years. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this sad time.
