Mable Ellen Taylor, 84, formerly of 66 Covington St., Asheville, passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the Canton Christian Convalescent Center. A native of Buncombe Co., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Celi Powers Gudger. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Y. Taylor who died in 1964. Mrs. Taylor worked in the finance department of Ivey's Department Store for 40 years. She will be remembered as a beloved aunt and friend. Mrs. Taylor is survived by several nieces and nephews, including her special niece, Pat Carver, of Asheville. A funeral service for Mrs. Taylor will be on Wednesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Clark Henderson officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Her family will receive friends for half an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.   1. Sorry to hear that Ellen has passed away. My mom, Jean Wilson lived across the street at 75 Covington and she & Ellen used to have a lot of chatting time on mom’s front porch. She also loved her pound cake. We have been able to visit her a few times at the nursing home. We missed seeing her this year mom spent some time in the hospital while we were up there. She is now blind. May God give you peace and confort.
