Mabel J. Getbehead

Mabel J. Getbehead, 97, of Weaverville, NC, died on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward who died in 2003. She was born on September 13, 1914, in Rome, NY, the daughter of Mabel Watson and Louis Jacobus. Mabel married Edward Getbehead in Rome, NY in 1939 and dedicated her life to caring for family, immediate and extended, as a homemaker with brief periods of employment at St John's Lutheran Church and Tuegega Country Club in Rome, NY. Mabel and Ed moved to Delray Beach, FL in 1984, Indian Trail, NC in 1995, and Weaverville, NC in 2000. Mrs. Getbehead (Mabe, Mom, Nana, Gigi, Gram, Auntie Mame) is survived by a sister, Helen J. Rosenburgh of Framingham, MA and brother-in-law, Louis P. Getbehead and his wife Beverly of Stuart, FL; daughter, Helen G. Janisko and husband David A. of Weaverville, NC; son, Jon A. Getbehead and wife Ruth E. of Wynantskill, NY; seven grandchildren: Cheryl L. Janisko of Richmond, VA, Debra J. Tonnesen and husband Rev. Philip of Salisbury, NC, Dr. Lisa J. Becton and husband Gordon of Johnston, IA, Christopher J. Janisko and wife Lynn of Boynton Beach, FL, and Jon A. Getbehead and wife Kristin of Marietta, GA, Dr. Jeffrey P. Getbehead of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Jesse L. Getbehead of Wynantskill, NY; nine great-grandchildren: Jessica, Nicki, Jacob, Julie, Gregory, Katie, Ashton, Dena, and Hannah, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Asheville, NC on Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church--"Bloom", 51 Wilburn Place, Asheville, NC 28806 or St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, 470 Winter St. Ext., Troy, NY 12180.
