          Lucius A. 'Craggy)'Ingle, 95, of 51 Briarwood
Road, Woodland Hills, Asheville, died Monday, August
24, 1998, at his home.


     Mr. Ingle was born in the Craggy section of
Buncombe County and was a son of the late Robert and
Sallie Smith Ingle.  His mother died when he was a child
and he went to work for Southern Railway when he was
15 and stayed with the railroad, most of the time as a
machinist, until retiring in 1948.


     He was also preceded  in death by his first wife,
Roxie Ingle in 1945, and by two sons, Herbert H. Ingle
and Donald L. Ingle.


     Mr. Ingle was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member
of the West Asheville Lodge #665, AF & AM, the Oasis
Temple, the Scottish Rite, the Asheville Shrine Club,
and the George Washington Masonic National Memorial
in Alexandria, VA.  He was a honorary member of the
Blackmer Lodge #170, and the Mars Hill and
Weaverville lodges.

     He was a former member of Elkwood United
Methodist Church, but more recently attended the First
Baptist Church with his wife.


     He is survived by his wife, Esta 'Liz' Mundy Clontz
Ingle;  two sons, Bill F. Ingle of Clearlake, CA and
Kenneth Ingle of Memphis, TN;  sixteen grandchildren
and eight great-grandchildren.


     Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Thursday at
Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Rex Collins
officiating.  Masonic graveside rites will be conducted
by the West Asheville Lodge at Ashelawn Memorial
Park.  The lodge will open at 2:00 pm.


     His family will receive friends from one hour prior to
the service at the funeral home and request that
memorials be made to the Masonic Home for Children,
600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.
