Louise Northcott Dennis, 84, longtime Asheville resident, passed away on May 8, 2003, at the Fountainview Center for Alzheimer’s Disease, Atlanta, GA.
She is survived by her husband, John Wesley Dennis; two daughters, Jane Flynn of Bald Head Island, NC, and Kathryn Waybright of Acworth, GA; two grandchildren, Nathaniel and Carolyn Waybright of Acworth, GA, and nephew, J. Gresham Northcott, Jr. of Charlotte, NC.
Mrs. Dennis was a native of Richmond, VA, and moved to Asheville with her family in 1933. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Northcott of Asheville and the sister of James G. “Sally” Northcott of Black Mountain, all of whom preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Asheville High School and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Mrs. Dennis was a charter member of Groce United Methodist Church, Asheville, where she was instrumental in the early development of church programs. In addition to her church activities, she was a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital for several years. Prior to returning to North Carolina in 1988, she and her family lived in Savannah, GA, for 25 years. At the time of her death, she was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 pm Saturday, May 10, in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral home with the Revs. Robert M. Blackburn, Jr., and Christy Harley Matlick officiating. Burial will be at Lewis Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends from 6 - 8 pm Friday at the funeral home and suggest that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Central United Methodist Chruch, 27 Church Street, Asheville, NC 28801, or to Groce United Methodist Church, 954 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.

Was sorry to hear of Louise’s death. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I remember many good times as a teenager being welcomed into your home on Wilmington Island.
