Lois Jean Harvey White, 89, passed away Monday, October 26, 2026 at Fletcher Health and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. White was born April 6, 1937 in Banner, Kentucky to the late Sid and Myrtle Virginia Hall Harvey. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, William “Bill” Huey White and two sisters, Madelyn Johnson and Elizabeth “Betty” Kolezynski.

Lois graduated with a degree in Education from Oakland University in Michigan. She also worked at the Ford Motor Corporation Credit Division in Dearborn, Michigan and taught 1st and 2nd grade at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Mt Clemens, Michigan.

While working a full time career, she always found time for her children. Whether it was keeping score for her son’s little league baseball team, volunteering in the school library or tumbling and playing jump rope in the yard with her daughter.

Lois was an adventurous lady who loved traveling and fishing. The family spent many summer vacations at Drummond Island Michigan enjoying fishing and spending time together with nieces, nephews and friends. She even tied her own fishing lures.

In 1973, Lois and her husband Bill purchased an 80 acre farm. Lois used her business and education experience running the farm operations with the family. Purchasing beef cattle, chickens and horses. Whether it was making soap, canning, or loving on her favorite cow Susie, it was there she rekindled her passion for painting ceramics which she discovered earlier in life while carrying her son.

After moving to Asheville, NC she continued her love of painting and ceramics which then grew to become Ceramic Art and Supply in Arden and Fletcher NC. For over 20 years, she supplied finished pieces, glazes, paints, and brushes to her customers and students. She became one of the top distributors for Gare Inc.  She taught certification classes and won several accolades for her artwork and teaching. She also taught Ceramic Painting Classes for UNCA.

One of her favorite places was their vacation home on Lake Jocassee in Salem SC. There Lois, Bill and family enjoyed relaxing times sitting on the front porch swing, fishing, boating and the beautiful outdoors.

Lois was a Mother, Aunt, Friend, Teacher and Entrepreneur with a dynamic personality that everyone loved. She raised her children with her “can’t never did anything until it tried” mindset and if she wanted to do it, she found a way, learned how and she did it.

She is survived by her two children; William White, Jr. and his wife Tammy, Daughter, Sherrie Cobb and her husband Randy; a brother, Bud Harvey, nieces and nephews.
