Lillian Thompson Brooks, 87, of Candler, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Memorial Mission Hospital, and is now celebrating a pain free life in heaven with her late husband, Joseph Brooks, and her parents, William J. and Neavie Maynor Thompson. She is survived by a son, the Rev. Gary Brooks and wife, the Rev. Lynn Brooks, of Candler; grandchildren Philip Brooks of Asheville and Naomi Brooks of B.C., Canada; sisters Monnie Murphy and Mary Frances Weaver, both of Greensboro; and by a brother, Billy Thompson of Greensboro. Lillian has always lived for her family and given of herself unselfishly wherever she found a need. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 10, 2011, at 3:00 p.m., at the St. Annas Cemetery in Pembroke, NC. Guestbook

  1. My wife and I were in the accident with Mrs. Brooks and we are so sorry for your loss. We want to express our deepest sympathy to the family. We are grateful that Lillian won’t have to suffer anymore but sorry for the family who will miss her encouraging words and great wisdom.

  2. Lillian was always so loving & caring to all who knew her. A mighty Intercessor and beautiful sister in the Lord who had an encouraging word and exhortation to always ‘look to Jesus’. She loved Gary, Lynn, Naomi, Philip & Amber with all her heart. All of her family was special to her…and spoke of her love for them often. It was an honor to know her. She will be missed, but her Godly example will live on.

  3. Grandma, it’s your ‘baby’…. I don’t know how to be strong right now like I promised you I would in the hospital room. I feel so empty ’cause you were the other half of me. I’m glad you’re not in pain & I hope that there really is a heaven, but I just don’t know so… That’s why this is so hard for me. Help me to be strong somehow please if you can. I need you grandma. Love, your only granddaughter

  4. Not a day goes by that I’m not thinking of you and missing you grandma. Give Aunt Mary Frances, Daddy, Aunt Inez, Grandpa and my great grand parents my love. I love you. You were the best ever!
