Asheville Butterfly TrailLillian Russell Dawes, 93, of Asheville, died on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at the WNC Baptist Retirement Home.
A native of Madison Co., Ms. Dawes was the daughter of the late Brian Russell and Dora Haynes Russell Jordan. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Garland Russell.
Ms. Dawes had retired from Sears, where she worked for 23 years. She was a member of Leicester United Methodist Church.
Ms. Dawes is survived by her daughter, Linda Dawes Day and husband Alton, of Asheville; son, John J. Dawes, III, of Asheville; and three grandchildren, Brandi D. Duclos and her husband, Richard Duclos, A. Frank Day, and Nathan R. Day and his wife, Abby M. Day.
A funeral service for Ms. Dawes will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Henry M. Moody Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you both and your Family. We were very fond of your mother and father.
Lil always had that smile and joy that we will always remember.
We visited with Lil at times when my mother was there at the baptist home.
George and I have been out of town and just returned and learned of Lil’s death, and was unable to attend the service.
