Lewis Warren Barnwell, 78, of Buckeye Cove Road, Swannanoa, died Sunday, September 30, 2001, at the Hospice Solace Center.

Mr. Barnwell was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late William Elisha and Zella Wright Barnwell. He was married to Anna Mary Alice Barnwell who died in 1991. He was a Navy veteran of WW II and was retired from Beacon Manufacturing Co.

Surviving are one daughter, Patsy Barnwell of Asheville, seven sons, William, Bobby, Larry and Ellis Barnwell of Swannanoa, Johnny Barnwell of Newport News, VA, Lewis Barnwell of New Hope, Alabama and Carl Rhein of Reading, PA; thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Buckeye Baptist Church where he was a member. The Reverend Stanley Taylor will officiate with burial to follow at Mountain View Memorial Park.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
