Lattie Joe Smith, 77, died Sunday, September 18, 2005, at his home in Waycross, GA following an extended illness.
A native of Candler, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Byard and Edith Smith and was married to Virginia Pressley Smith who died January 23, 2003. He was a Navy veteran and was retired from Western-Southern Life Insurance Company where he served as manager of the Concord office for 25 years.
He is survived by two sons, Michael B. Smith of Waycross who was his father’s caregiver and Jerry Lee Smith of Concord; two daughters, Diana McKinney of Mooresville and Wanda Sue Walker of China Grove; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Sams officiating. Burial will be at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Lattie Joe and I had careers together at Western Southern. He had many outstanding qualities and many friends therefroe he touched the lives of a lot of people.Thanks for the good times, Joe.
