Mrs. Panhorst became a very dear friend to me in the early ’70’s when I was a struggling single parent going to college. I was able to provide my daughter with a safe and educational environment at Asheville Day Nursery while I finished my degree. We talked of many things while the children slept; my husband had just been killed in a car accident and she was very kind to befriend me in such a sad time in my life. Later she invited me to her home at Christmas to hear a young man play the loveliest of all piano recitals. Her grace and gentility will never be forgotten. Now that I have three college degrees and can contribute altruistically to the United Way, I have always designated Asheville Day Nursery as my 1st choice in order to help another single mother afford a safe and educational day care for her child. I was saddened last month to learn that the Nursery is no longer in business. . .and now I am saddened to learn that my dear friend has passed away. My condolences to all of Mrs. Panhorst’s family and friends. I shall not forget her.

My sincere condolences in the passing of Mrs. Panhorst. I received the notice of her death from a thoughtful Asheville friend.
My Mother,Dot Peeke, would want to join me in expressing our sympathy to the family. So many fond memories of church gatherings and socials at her beautiful mountain home. I know you find comfort in recognizing she is at peace in the Lord’s House. How often I heard her speak of her beloved nephew and sister-in-law.
In sympathy,
Dottie Peeke
I was a student at Asheville Day Nursery during the 1970s. I remember Mrs. Panhorst and how kind she was to the students and their families. Asheville Day Nursery is a positive childhood memory because of her and my teachers. Thank you to Mrs. Panhorst and others who serve the community with their love of children. Blessings to her family; I pray her homegoing service was beautiful! Heidi (Clark) Sutton

I remember Miss Panhorst whom gave me my first job when I was in high school. I loved working with the children at the Asheville Day Nursery in the earlier 1970’s. My Mom Susan James also worked their and had a wonderful time with the children also. It was sad to see her in the paper. She loved to have parties at her house and loved to show her house off. She will be sadly missed. Patricia James
