Grace Kathleen Waters Buckner, 83, of Asheville, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at her home. Mrs. Buckner was born in Buncombe County, to the late Smiley Dewey Waters and Cora Lee McElroy Waters. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Buckner. She was a loving caregiver for her family, including her husband, an aunt, her daddy and her grandchildren. Survivors include daughter, Geraldine Robinson and her husband Michael, of Alexander; son, James Buckner and his wife, Hettie, of Asheville; three grandchildren, Heather Hollifield and her husband, John, and Dustin Buckner, all of Asheville, Jason Robinson and his wife, Gena of Charlotte; and sister, Virginia Candler of Yuma, AZ . A very special thank you to Care Partners Hospice and to two special caregivers, Shelby Burnette and Sue Cope. Also, a very special "thank you" to Hettie for all the unselfish and loving hours of care given to her "mother". God blessed our family with a very special angel…thank you Hettie. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ashelawn Cemetery, with Rev. Steven Fox and her great nephew, Ryan Robinson officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home, Tunnel Road. Flowers are welcome or memorials can be made to Care Partners Hospice, 68 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.

  1. We send our deepest sympathy. Ms. Buckner was a beloved member of our extended family. Our children always thought of her as their ‘Special Grandmother’. She is now in the presence of our Heavenly Father and has definitely earned her Angel Wings.
