Juanita Ray, 84, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026 at her residence.

Ms. Ray was born in Yancey County to the late Francis Benjamin Ray and Flora Huskins Ray. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Reese and Kathleen King and a brother, Howard Ray.

Juanita loved the Lord and had the most generous and loving heart around. She enjoyed cooking and loved her recipes and her flowers.

She is survived by a brother, Bascombe Ray (Sheila) and a sister-in-law, Sondra Jarvis.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Shepherd Memorial Park.

  2. To the Ray family including me juanita we the most wonderful woman and the best sister n law that anyone could ever have
    We were more like sisters and I was in family 61 years and the is wonderful
    Juanita was so kind to everyone and she will surely be missed they will be another juanita and we had some great times over the years
    And I am so thankful to my niece linda stay she would go several times a week and help juanita
    And I am thankful that I was part of the family
    Juanita gave her like up to take care of her mother and dad
    I will surely miss her but I know that she in heaven with the rest of her family and juanita was a blessing to everyone who knew her
    Juanita I will always love you and you will always be in my heart
    Now juanita your work on this earth is done now go rest high upon the mountain top And I will always miss you your sister n law sondra ray

  3. So sorry for your loss. I lived across from Juanita until April of 2024 when I sold my house and moved. She was the kindest most gentle soul and seemed to like everyone. Prayers for her family during this time as you surely lost a gem of a very sweet lady.
