James Roy Barnwell, 59, of Bob Barnwell Road, Fairview, died Thursday, January 14, 2010. A native of Rutherford County, he resided most of his life in Fairview. He was a 1969 graduate of New Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC. He enjoyed riding horses, fishing and his pet cat. He was employed at Direct Link and Days International in Asheville. He was the son of the late Louis and Mildred Earwood Barnwell and husband of the late Paula Jacobs Barnwell. He is survived by his daughter, Cassidy Taylor and her husband, Hal, of British Columbia, Canada; his step-mother, Mildred Barnwell of Fairview; sister, Dottie Williams and her husband, Kenneth, of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother, Ray Barnwell and his wife, Ellen, of Fairview and a granddaughter, Lillith. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 222 S. Church Street, Suite 303, Charlotte, NC 28202.

    We were shocked to hear about Roy. He came over for a visit a few weeks ago. We enjoyed talking with him. He has always been such a special friend and we thought the world of him. Always in a good mood. We enjoyed riding horses with him too. We had alot of fun. We will sure miss him. You are in our thoughts & prayers.

  7. I just found out that my cousin died. I will never forget how friendly he was, and how he loved to talk.(lol)
    I know Dottie told Debra and momma about him, but Debra don’t always tell me things.
