Hendersonville ~ James Cawthorn, 79, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Elizabeth House in Hendersonville. Mr. Cawthorn was a retired U.S. Veteran serving 2 years in the Army and 20 years with the Marines. He is survived by his two children, Kathy Cowan and Keith Cawthorn; three grandchildren, Joe Cowan, Katie Cawthorn and Joshua Cawthorn; one great grandchild, Joseph Cash Cowan and a brother, Eugene Cawthorn. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with Reverend Charles Evans officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:00 at the Cemetery Chapel prior to the service.

To the Cawthorn family we were so sorry to learn of the passing of Mr. Cawthorne.He was a wonderful funloving guy he always had a joke or a wise crack each time he came in even though he was sick he still managed to smile we will dearly miss him. We just wanted o let you know your in our thoughts and prayers sincerely the Kmart Pharmacy Staff in Hendersonville, N.C.

  3. I knew Jim for 23 years and he and his wife Jeanette were good friends and truly good friends are hard to come by. We shared some good times. Jim was small in stature but had a big heart. He could be cantankerous and stubborn but we all are in our own way. If I needed a fox hole buddy I’d choose Jim (Gunny). Semper Fi my friend.
