Jacquelene Smith Merrell

Mrs. Merrell was born in Owensboro, KY, was a daughter of the late William and Edna Fleming Smith, and was married to Woodfin Marcus “Hoop” Merrell, who died in 1993. She was retired after 35 years in the accounting division of the Asheville Water Department and was a member of Grassy Branch Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Brett Holloman of Asheville, and two grandchildren, Mark and Vanessa Holloman.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Ridings officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Wednesday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 50 South French Broad Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.
