Jack Allison Jarvis was called home peacefully on December 26, 2011 surrounded by his family.
Jack was born March 24, 1926, the youngest of nine children to Eliza Bera Rutledge and Carl Nathaniel Jarvis, in Asheville.
His priorities and passions in life were the Lord Jesus Christ and his family. He was a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church. One of the proud moments in his life was the birth of his granddaughter, Allison, who was born on his birthday in 1982.
Jack was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
On August 14, 1948 Jack married the love of his life, Betty Jean Bartlett, and shared 63 wonderful years together.
He enjoyed his career in law enforcement with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Department and with the Biltmore Forest Police and Fire Department until his retirement in 1981.
He was known by family and friends for his faith, love of family and sense of humor.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul, George, Bob, Leland and Bill; sisters, Nell Hurt, Mary Stewart, Cornelia Griffin; and son-in-law, Harry Walton Whitley, Jr.
Surviving to honor his memory are his devoted wife, Betty; daughter, Deborah Jean Justice and husband, Kevin of Waynesville, Rebecca Lynn Whitley, of Greenville, NC; his beloved granddaughter, Allison Hester DeVore and husband, Steven of Charlotte; and a number of cherished nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the caring support and assistance that was given by Dr. Craig Mills and the members of Care Partners Hospice.

Debbie, Becky,..Sorry about your daddy..We watched endlessly as Debbie was up 24/7 traveling back and forth çarring for both parents and felt so helpless that we couldn’t help ease her load. Debbie and Kevin and Becky are extremely devoted to family. I know Jack appreciated and adored his family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you. We love you veory much.

Please accept my deepest sympathy in the passing of Jack. We worked together as officers at Biltmore Forest and the Sheriff’s Department. He truly exemplified himself as a dedicated husband, father and officer. I am thankful he was a part of my life.
