Mary Idella Gruetter Ownbey, 93, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at the Oaks of Sweeten Creek.
Mrs. Ownbey was a native of Sewanee, TN, and was a daughter of the late Godfried and Myrtle Gruetter. She was married to the late Clenard Franklin Ownbey. She was retired after 36 years with Southern Bell and later worked for Gateway Hallmark Store for 14 years. She was a member of the Bell South Pioneers Club and Biltmore Baptist Church where she participated in the Daisy Rogers Sunday School Class.
She is survived by three sons, Don R. Ownbey, Sr. of Charlotte, Clenard F. Ownbey, Jr. of Inman, SC, and Gene T. Ownbey, Sr. of Winston-Salem; a sister, Lorraine Plemmons of Asheville; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Don Ownbey, Jr., Clenard Ownbey, Jr., Gene Ownbey, Jr., Sean Ownbey, Mark Ownbey, and Chris Tenpenny.
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and suggest that memorials be made to ones favorite charity.
