Henry William Pfister, 87, of Givens Estates, passed away on March 18, 2011 at the John F. Keever Solace Center. Henry was born on January 21, 1924 in Brooklyn, N.Y to the late Philip and Katie Pfister. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Philip Pfister and a daughter-in-law, Lynn Pfister. Henry was a mechanical designer who among other positions worked at the Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, N.Y. for 25 years doing peacetime atomic research. He was an avid handyman who also enjoyed gardening, hiking, woodworking, folk and square dancing, spending time with family and traveling (including going cross country twice in a motor home seeing all 50 states.) Henry retired to Asheville in 1990 and enjoyed hiking many trails in the mountains here and also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels for 10 years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dorothy Smith Pfister; one son, William Henry Pfister; two daughters, Kathy Krisher and her husband, Dan, and Linda Brown and her husband, Carey; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Shimkus, Paul Pfister, David Pfister, Erin Krisher and Sean Krisher; three step grandchildren, Rachel Brown, Justin Brown and Tyler Brown and three great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in the Norma Pulliam Chapel at Givens Estates on Saturday, April 23rd, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. All friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Assisted Living Fund at Givens Estates, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803 or to Skyland United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 697, Skyland, NC 28776.

  3. I started out being Mr. Jenkins waitress and soon we were friends. I ll miss seeing him around Main Street. God Bless his wife and boys.
