Henry Peter Meywes, 82, of 20 Mission Lane, Fairview, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 19, 2002. Mr. Meywes was born in Rotterdam, Holland, and was a son of the late Pieter and Wilhelmina Kriesz Meywes. He came to the United States as a child and was raised in Ohio. He attended Western Reserve University, Fenn College, Cleveland Engineering Society and John Marshall Law School. He served as Research Associate at the University of Minnesota for 10 years and served in the US Army as an undercover agent on felonies, narcotics and vice, in cooperation with the FBI and state police throughout the Fourth Service Command. He was a specialist in all phases of human resource discipline and worked as director of Industrial Relations with the H.K. Porter Company and the Joy Manufacturing Company. From 1966 to 1980 he served as Commissioner of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service of the US Government in Alburqueque, NM. More recently he was vice-president and executive officer of Sullair Corporation and Associate founder, vice-president and executive officer of the Sullivan Machinery Company. He had lived in Buncombe County for 18 years and was a member of Crossroads Assembly of God. In October, 2002, he was named as an Honorary Deputy with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department. He loved music and during the 1950’s he played an accordian with the Masonic Band, “The Cornpoppers”. He also played the piano and organ and he and his wife at times served as church musicians. He is survived by his wife, Mary Burrell Meywes; one daughter, Jody Marlowe of Fairview; three sons, Stephen Henry Meywes, Richard A. Meywes, and J. Scott Meywes, all of Fairview; and one grandson, Jason Andrew Marlowe. Funeral services will be at 3:30 pm Sunday at Crossroads Assembly of God, 20 S. Bear Creek Road, Asheville, NC, with the Rev. Michael Brown officiating. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565 or to the World War II Memorial Fund, Attn: GR048, PO Box 96074, Washington, DC 20090-6074. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.
