Asheville Butterfly TrailA native of Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Florence Thompson Witkop. Mrs. Sullivan was a registered nurse, with BS and Master’s degrees. She worked as an Ob-Gyn head nurse for 19 years, returned to school to earn her Master’s degree and then taught nursing for the State of New York for 19 years. She was President of the Ladies Guild at the Infant of Prague Catholic Church in Buffalo and also at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Arden. She helped found the Young at Heart Group at St. Barnabas, was an avid bridge player and was active with the New Friends of Asheville.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald R. Sullivan; daughter, Peggy Dellinger and her husband Bob, of Horse Shoe; son, Gerald L. Sullivan, and his wife Mary Ann of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Danny Dellinger, Robert Sullivan and Patrick Sullivan. She was preceded in death by a grandson, David Sullivan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 am Saturday at St. Barnabas Catholic Church by Rev. Roger Arnsparger. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at 7 pm Friday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian and a Rosary will be said at 8 pm.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 122 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017.
I remember serving Mrs. Sullivan many times when I worked for Bank of Asheville/NCNB in Skyland, NC. I know she will be missed. She was a very special lady. She always seemed genuinely interested in me and my family. I remember the times she would come in with Danny. I long to be as sweet to my grandchildren as she was to him.
