Helen Byrd Buchanan, 92, of N. Louisiana Ave., Asheville, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the Laurels of GreenTree Ridge. A native of Mitchell Co., Mrs. Buchanan was a daughter of the late Will and Bessie Wilson Byrd. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Anderson Buchanan. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Mrs. Buchanan is survived by her daughters, Dawn McGee, of Stockbridge, GA, and Linda Jury, of Asheville; sister, Kate Puckett, of Spruce Pine; brother, Ken Byrd, of Treasure Island, FL; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service for Mrs. Buchanan will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Randy Bray officiating. Interment will follow at Sky View Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 985 ½ Patton Ave., Asheville, NC 28806, in Helen's memory.

  4. Mama and I just wanted to let you know that we were thinking about you. So sorry about Helen, I remember some good times spending the night at her home on Montford Ave. We rode by there to see if we could pick out the house and everything has changed so much. Mama said she thought Dawn had her home phone number she would love to hear from you. Call some time and maybe we could all get together for lunch or something. Love ya, Betty and Tinky.
