Harry Lee Payne, 69, of 323 Emma Road, Asheville, died Tuesday, July 25, 200 at his residence after a short illness.
He was a son of the late Wilburn and Carrie Lee Godfrey Payne. He was also preceded in death by a
brother, James Walter Payne. He was a Army Veteran of WW II and a member of the Biltmore Masonic Lodge #446 AF&AM.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty (Susie) Payne Sweeney of Asheville; a son Johnny Lee Payne of
Weaverville; two brothers, Robert A. (Bobby) Payne of Asheville, Martin E. Payne of Seattle, WA; two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren;
four nieces and five nephews.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Thursday in the Chapel at the Western North Carolina State
Veterans Cemetery. Masonic rites will be conducted by Jakie Cauble and the Biltmore Lodge # 446 AF&AM. The lodge will open at 10:45 a.m.
His family will receive friends 7-8:30 Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Avenue.

28776 or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 16, Asheville, NC 28802.
My ‘Duncle HaHa’…where do I begin? Maybe with Garfield? Or Seattle? I will miss him so much!!! To my Daddy and all the rest of the family- I am very sorry for the loss. I love all of you, and I wish I could be there!

It’s been almost a year and a half and I still miss you so much. I used to love and come over and talk. My we had some good ones and not so good, but you always told the truth. A fine example! I wish you were here to help me with Kevin, but in reality, you are here with me! I can feel that stern hand on my shoulder. Dad, I love you and miss you with all my heart. My memories with you will always remain, strong and kindhearted, just like you were! There isn’t enough words that can express my feeling of admiration I have for you! I know you used to take care of alot of people without anyone knowing. Thats just you, Dad! I will always love you, Nickiy
