Gilbert Henry Burke, 88, of 18 Zephyr Drive, Asheville, died Sunday, February 5, 2006, at the Hospice Solace Center.
Mr. Burke was born in Everett, MA, and was a son of the late Adrian and Bertha Hefler Burke. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Eva Sargent and a brother, Stanley Burke.
He was an Army veteran of WW II and was a retired supervisor with Burman Leather Co. in Boston, MA. He was a member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Julia Elizabeth Dalton Burke; two daughters, Joan Burke and her husband, Steven Koch, of Asheville and Susan Randall and her husband, Charles, of New Port Richey, FL; one son, Donald Burke and his wife, Clare, of Shrewsbury, MA; six grandchildren, Jennifer Griffith, Adam Randall, Stephanie Randall, Phillip Koch, Michael Burke, and Jeffrey Koch; three great-grandchildren, Ryan Griffith, Savannah Griffith, and Julia Griffith; two sisters, Frances Babin of Malden, MA and Betty O’Neal and one brother, Milton Burke of Andover, MA.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday by the Rev. Fr. Frank J. Seabo at the Basilica of St. Lawrence, D.M. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
