Gilbert C. Unger
Fairview ~ Gilbert Carleton Unger, 101, of Fairview and formerly of Franklin, died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the VA Medical Center.
A native of Richmond, VA, he was a son of the late Gilbert C. Unger, Sr. and Mina E. Roessler Unger.
Mr. Unger was a Captain in the United States Army, serving with the Army Corps of Engineers in the South Pacific during WWII.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Katherine Unger; one daughter, Kathryn and her husband, Michael; one brother, Burton; two grandchildren, Julie and Brian and one niece, Faye.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 13, 2009 in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Pastor Jim Hunter officiating.
The Buncombe County Veterans Council will provide military honors.
For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
